The love ring or “love knot” is an ancient symbol of love and friendship that dates back to antiquity and can be found in the stories and legends of many cultures.  In Greek and Roman culture it was called the knot of Hercules, as he was considered the guardian of wedded life. It was thought to protect the wearer in either an amulet or belt form and eventually as a ring. In marriage it was believed to be a symbol of good luck and everlasting love between a couple and may have been the origin of the saying to “tie the knot”.
